American Psycho (2000)

This is my favorite movie of all time! Every nuance to the character of Patrick Bateman and the mysteries that come along with everything we see through his eyes just make this completely compelling. The brilliance in this movie does not necessarily lie in the way that it is presented (not that I have any problems with the way Mary Harron directed it), but more in the way the events unfold. They are just someone’s life, it is not a perfectly crafted story because there really isn’t one. The one thing that does keep this film connected, and not just a series of events that take place, is the interactions progressing between the characters as we come to understand them more. All the more power I give to this film because it doesn’t take away anything from the enjoyment of the book, it just condenses it and forges its own path, which is not something one sees very often, but almost every situation and line of dialogue comes from the source material. Even when the conversations change, or different lines and situations are given to different characters, it isn’t irritating because it is done with care and out of love for the original novel. This movie is absolutely mesmerizing and even watching it six times in 3 months, it still did not let go of the grip it had on me.
